Appendix R
In EDU 577, I wrote the self-assessment below to assess my current
abilities and areas of comfort in regards to technology integration. The
development of this self-assessment shows my understanding of the following elements from
the NETS-T, CTTC, and CCCT.
NETS-T – V.a, V.b, V.c, V.d
CTTC – II.c, II.d, III.a, III.b
CCCT – 2.4,
3.3, 3.6

A9 – Self Assessment as Tech Fac

After completing the survey and analyzing the results, I feel fairly confident about many of the skills I’ve acquired concerning educational technology. There are, however, some areas that I need to improve on. In order to continue to grow as a professional, it is important to not only identify needs of growth but to also pursue ways to make those improvements.
Although I feel very confident using e-mail and web pages to communicate and as distant learning tools, there are some areas in these regards that I don’t feel as comfortable with. I believe that I need to gain more knowledge when it comes to video conferencing or hypermedia publishing. I should look into professional service opportunities at workshops to improve in this area.
I have also found that I lack experience when it comes to disseminating district-wide information to staff members. This is mostly due to a lack of experience, as our technology coordinator mostly does this. I have some experience running workshops on a few programs, but could improve in this area by offering to in-service teachers on other programs or integrated units I develop. Improvement in this area will come with experience.
One area of real weakness that I’ve noticed while taking the survey is in specific-purpose electronic devices. While I know a lot about computers, I’m not knowledgeable when it comes to things like language translators, scientific probeware, or electronic thesauruses. I should attempt to access some of these devices so I can experiment with them and improve in this area so I can exceed standards.
Lastly, I feel I need real improvement when it comes to fixing hardware issues on computers and working with network maintenance and installation. I’m not real familiar with software and hardware configurations or other trouble shooting and preventative maintenance. In order to reach a level of ‘exceeds standards’ in this area, I need to attend some classes or workshops. Even more affective than this would be to actually work with our technology coordinator to fix a lot of these issues. Hands-on experience is often best.
