Dear Families,
I am writing to sincerely apologize for the transportation delays some of you experienced this morning. I know how disruptive and stressful it is when buses do not arrive as expected, especially when families rely on school transportation to help their day start on time. This coupled with being out of school the last 2 days certainly compounds the issue.
This morning’s delays were the result of buses not starting or experiencing mechanical issues prior to leaving the lot. Unfortunately, the extreme cold and recent snowfall played a significant role in these challenges. While our transportation systems are prepared for winter conditions, the arctic temperatures created issues that could not be fully resolved before routes began.
I have been in constant communication with our Transportation Director from DATTCO and she is outstanding. They are confident that adjustments and repairs have been made and that we will be in a better position tomorrow. Please know that they are taking this situation seriously and are working diligently to ensure reliable service moving forward.
I recognize how demanding this time of year already is for families, and today’s delays only added to that stress. I truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility, and I regret the inconvenience this caused you and your children. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work through these challenges together. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate accordingly if any additional issues arise.
Respectfully,
Christopher Roche
WPS Superintendent of Schools
